What's with the pencil?

I've used mechanical pencils but they lack the feel of creativity. Soft and hard leads you get different effects. In the field, you can sharpen your pencil on scrap paper or rocks. Computers offer amazing end results, of ideas first hatched in pencil.
Even bright days offer glimpses of storm clouds building. Have a deadline?
What's with the name?
Screens, eyes, print matter all rely on fine grids for display. I liked the pixelmap technical connotation and that maps create order from abstraction.
